Founded in 1983, the MVEF has traditionally focused on annual fundraising and contributed those funds to materials and programs on a year-by-year basis. In order to expand the types of programs it can support, MVEF created the Mountain View Educational Endowment (MVEE). The goal of the MVEE is to provide the MVEF with a stable source of funding that will enable the MVEF to make multi-year commitments to innovative academic and extracurricular programs and curriculum enhancements.
Corporate Benefits
The MVEE strives to maintain and enhance the Mountain View - Whisman School District's excellent educational programs by building an ongoing broad base of financial support in the community. A key part of the community is the corporations headquartered and doing business here in Mountain View. For these companies, the benefits of participating in the MVEE are many. A strong educational foundation in our schools attracts educated home buyers and an educated workforce. Strong schools are also one of the driving forces behind healthy real estate values which benefit both local business and home property owners. Equally important are the benefits corporations receive when they become active participants in their surrounding communities. By participating in the endowment’s long term focus on providing financial support for Mountain View schools, companies doing business in the heart of Silicon Valley become good corporate citizens as well as smart business leaders. Just as their business investments seek economic returns, their philanthropic investments seek social returns—the same societal benefits that the endowment seeks to achieve.
Goals
The goal of the Mountain View Education Endowment is to raise $2,000,000 to provide sustained funding for those programs initiated with short term funding from MVEF. This would include sponsorship of special student programs like physical education, the arts, and science, funding teacher initiated classroom programs, support for upgrading school libraries, including teacher classroom libraries, and providing financial support to encourage new curriculum and innovation within the teaching ranks.
Example Funding
Assuming that the endowment would be able to spend 4.5% of the total amount held by the funds, the annual contribution from a $2,000,000 endowment might look like this:
Why does MVEE make a difference?
To have a significant impact on the community over a long period of time, an educational foundation must act as a catalyst for new and innovative means of educating our children. MVEF has demonstrated since 1983 that it has this ability to focus in on key problems and raise the necessary funding to implement new programs to address these shortcomings.
MVEE will expand the influence of MVEF by permitting the foundation to undertake longer term solutions to many of the problems faced throughout the district. Stable funding will allow for long-term, well conceived additions to the curriculum that the district would be unable to make with a simple promise to raise additional funds in the future. A reliable source of funding can help build a foundation that will enhance student enrichment, teacher morale and parent enthusiasm year-in and year-out. Finally, offering a stable source of funding can help spur innovation in teaching, enabling those who spend time and energy developing new and valuable curriculum to do so with the knowledge that their work will pay dividends over the long term.
How will the endowment be funded?
Donors who wish to contribute to the endowment fund can designate any portion of their annual donation to the fund. Gifts of securities and other property will be accepted.
Our endowment is professionally managed by the Community Foundation Silicon Valley.
